Utah Judo Class Jan 10th

You know, I am not much of a bowler… I don’t know if any of you ever bowl, but my experience wit bowling always seems to go about the same way… I show up and throw a few balls.  It is just enough to remind me that I am not much of a bowler.  Then I start the figure out what I was doing wrong (normally by the 4th frame or so), and start to tweak my game a bit, and throw better.  Then, by the 8th frame it all goes to hell, and I am screwing up again.

It’s funny how the martial arts can make you feel that same way.  There is so much in the little details that really makes a throw effective, or has you end up on your back.  Tuesday we worked arain on our 4 key throws… the Ost Otto Gari, and then arm, head-and-arm, and hip throws.  We did learn one where you step to the side, and cause the person to come toward where you were a moment ago… I really like that one.

My understanding is that we will be doing more sparring tonight.  I am really looking forward to it.  I am really loving this.  Very inexpensive… good exercise, self defense skills, bonding with my son, and no long term commitment.  I am very pleased.
