Utah Judo Class Jan 22nd: It’s all about the arm bar baby!
Okay, so I know it is taking me a couple of days to get the post up, but I actually will have a link over to one of the moves!
Tuesday we worked an awful lot on the arm bar from bottom guard, as well as how to escape it. I find that one of the most key things with the arm bar is the foot-plant into the hip that you use to spin you to the side a little. Without that it is just too easy for a strong person to keep the arm bent, and nullify your efforts. This is a great move from the bottom. I have to say however, that I was even more amazed at how slick the escape is! Basicaly, roll away from your opponent in such a way that it is turning you feet around, and forcing your arm above your head almost as if you were raising your hand to ask a question. Just keep rolling, and SHAZAM. Very nice.
Additionally, we worked on the Tai Otoshi . I gotta say, this is not my favorite move. If I were in position to throw this I think I would rather just throw the head and arm flip. But I think that’s what it’s really all about: finding the moves that work for you. That’s what was really key in wrestling.
We worked on another move as well, called the Soto Makikomi . Okay, now the animation in he link on this one may not look all that cool, but I really like this move. Come by class, and I’ll show you why
Hey Steve,
Thanks for the posts - I was looking for a place to train close by. This is the Pedro Sauer Jiu Jitsu place yes? I have been hoping for the two “J’s” in one place… Wanting to train for a dogbrothers gathering in a year or so…
John,
Yes, it sure is. They have Judo classes from 6-7 on tuesdays and thursdays, followed immediately by Jiu Jitsu. So if you are looking for both it’s a great opportunity.
