Utah Judo Classes (or not) for a few days and some UFC review

Sorry all for not posting for a few days.  I’ve been down sick and missed  a couple of classes, but I am really looking forward to tonight!  Expect some more notes tomorrow.

Additionally, I wanted to chime in on the UFC fights that happened over the weekend.  For starters, LESNAR IS A FREIGHT TRAIN!  Once he learns some more about submissions that guys is going to be great.  I think Dana White must be salivating as well.  They guys is perfect for the UFC: pretty, articulate, HUGE.  He’s like a poster boy.  I expect to see great things from him once he finds a good trainer.

Jeremy Horn.  I gotta tell you… maybe it’s because he has a gym right here in town, but I can’t help but love Jeremy Horn.  It was sad to see him lost, but that guy really was tough.  I think Jeremy showed well.  He can always take incredible punishment, and then spin around with a crazy submission attempt you don’t see coming.  I just think his game needs something else if he ever really wants to be top tier.  I think he needs more strength and better striking.  But, as I have watched Jeremy over the years, I am not convinced that his goal is really to be top-tier, nor to be one of Dana’s poster boys.  I think he fights because he loves it, and fights the way he fights because that’s how he loves to fight.  Ya gotta respect that.

As for Sylvia and Minotauro… No matter how hard I try I can’t like Tim Sylvia.  It’s like Lima Beans.  I tell myself their healthy, and that they really don’t taste that bad… but I still hate them.  Poor Tim seems to rub a lot of people that way.  For me, it’s because he only ever seems to perform only as hard as he needs to.  If he can coast and win a fight he will.  I think that’s insulting to the sport, his opponent, and the fans.  I shed no tears to watch him lose.

The next beating I’d like to see?  Put Keith Jardine against someone like Wanderlei.  I’d love to watch that.

That’s all for now… more Judo notes on wednesday!
