Utah Judo Class March 8th: Holy crap of a workout
So this past weekend was the first time I have been able to make it out to Judo on a Saturday… but I will not be missing many more saturdays in the future. It was really, really neat. We started by spending some time working on out basic moves, but ended the morning doing Randori (okay, so I am sure I spelled that wrong… I’ll find out the right way.)
Randori is basically like half-speed sparring, and it is really amazing. As I have mentioned in earlier blog posts, I have done some martial arts before, a bit of self defense, some isshen-ryu (yup, probably spelled that one wrong too), and significant hours on the Mortal Kombat game line. Sparring has always been one of my favorite things… but I have to tell you by way of comparison: sparring with striking styles is nothing like sparring with a grappling style art. I have not had some an unbelievable workout and learning experience since high school wrestling class. Even today, two days later, I just feel energized.
Where the tuesday and thursday classes as both an hour each, saturday is two hours, and had more instructors there.
As a reminder, anyone interested can always find details on where I train, as well as a bit about the moves on our Utah Judo about page.
