Utah Judo Class March 21st: Wanna buy a bridge?

So last night we worked a bit on our head, arm, and hip throws, and then moved on to our bridging.  I gotta tell you, from my wrestling days I felt I was a pretty darned good bridger.  But the Gi really introduces a new element.  Once someone really gets ahold of that gi it can be much harder to escape that it is when their in a wrestling singlet (picture included here for posterity sake.)

In other news, I can really feel my cardio improving… I really worked my butt off last night, but at the end I felt I still had some gas left in the tank.  It’s surprizing to me how quickly that has improved, but we have really been pushing as well.  I just feel a lot better physically.

It’s also been really neat to watch my son progress… he’s thirteen years old, but I see him gaining the confidence and control to actually be pretty effective against some of the men in the class.  Of course, if he ever gets good enough to challenge his old man, I’ll tazer him and immediately pull him out of Judo :)

I am looking forward to class tomorrow… I really want to work some more on that bridge… I keep running through it in my mind.  Beyond the physical aspects of Judo I am enjoying the mental diversion.  It gives me a chance to really have to think about someting othe than work.
