Judo Class on the Road at Freestyle Martial Arts in Reno

Sorry for the lack of posts for the last week, but works was insane… visitors from out of town to entertain, plus I was traveling a bit as well.  One of our stops was to Reno Nevada, where we had to do a photo shoot for my company.  My son, Tyler and I went there and spent a few hours at the Freestyle Martial Arts Studio getting our pictures taken.  The goal was some really good footage of some amazing arials from the throws.  I went with a slightly modified fireman’s carry type of throw, and we got some amazing pictures.  I will have some of them up here soon to show you all how they turned out.

I really wanted to say thanks to Tres (how cool of a name is that?!) for letting us use his gym for the day.  Anyone in Reno who is looking for a place to learn, I highly recommend these guys.  The gym is spectacular (especially the blue room), and they teach several good styles there (even though they don’t have Judo.)

So even though I did not make it to Judo this week, at least I got to do about a zillion throws (my back still hurts.)  It’s nice to visit another gym, but I want to put a shout out to the folks over at Hidden Valley, where I train.  I am planning to be there tuesday, and no amount of cool blue punching bags can keep me away from Mike’s great attitude, or Dr. Chen’s experience as well as the wonderful sense of humor they both bring.  I love learning from them!

On a separate note, I just had to share my ongoing dental saga… As you might recall, I wrote a post recently  about how my dentists gave me two crowns that I specifically told him I did not want, and then tried to get me to pay $500 for them.  Well, it gets better.  When I ordered (and paid) for my crowns, I ordered gold with ceramic on it.  The gold doesn’t discolor over time like steel.  Well, as you might recall, my dentist is stuck paying for two of these 6 crowns.  When I went in to get the permanents on today, just on a hunch I started grilling him about them being gold.  He assured me they were (twice.)  Then he left the room and came back (doing some soul searching, or thinking about how badly he wants to meet my lawyer, I don’t know.)  When he came back he informed me that there was a mistake, and the crowns were in fact the less expensive steel.  but that he would happily refund me the difference (and as such he would get to give me cheaper crowns for the two he messed up.)  I declined and am making him order the right ones.  Kinda scary to deal with a dentist that seems so much like a used car salesman!

Oh, and Tres, I have the picture of me and my son in shirts from your Academy.  I’ll get them up here in the next week.  Thanks again!!!
