Utah Judo Class May 24th: Randori till you drop

Judo class on saturday was spectacular!  We worked on how to turn a head and arm hold on the ground into a really really nasty choke.  Then, we worked about 45 minutes of Randori.  It was such a workout!  I could barely stand up by the end… my hands were shaking… the whole drive home I had to concentrate on not puking, and I was still sore two days later.  It was exactly what I needed!

The only downside was that I got to see how much cardio I lost not being in class for nearly a month.  It really hurt me.

In other news: Let’s review the UFC fights from saturday…

BJ Penn vs. Sherk.  Sherk is a fool.  We all knew that BJ had a better standup.  I understand keeping it on the feet for a while to try to wear BJ out, but you can only go so far with that.  Sherk’s best game is ground and pound… he never even went there.  Big mistake.

Jardine vs. Silva: Ouch.  That one made me cringe.  That’s the risk you run when you fight a puncher… it onyl takes one.

Tito vs. Machita:  Poor Tito…  I hate to see him leave on sucha frustrating note.  You have to hand it to Machita though.  He is a fast fighter that is willing to put the strategy needed to win ahead of what the crowd is begging for.  That will win him fights, but Dana White hates a boring fight… I think Machita will have to be careful about that if he wants to really be a champ here.  Dana finds ways to limit the exposure of boring fighters (although Tim Silvia was a champ with the some boring fight not to lose technique.)

I’m headed out fo town today with my wife to a concert, so I’ll miss class tonight… but I’ll be there thursday!
